What is the summer program?
Our summer program is for students who were enrolled at the school the previous year. The summer program offers a Montessori light experience that emphasizes our Montessori pedagogy while becoming more experiential through broader themes and more outdoor activities. In some instances students stay for the summer to ensure that their basic math and language skills are well honed and in other instances, they stay to enjoy the camaraderie with their peers.
When does the school year start and end?
While we provide year-round education, our official school year starts in August and ends at the end of May.
Can parents volunteer at the school?
We encourage parents to share their talents with the students at the school. Parents can volunteer in various ways: listening to children read, helping with our organic gardens, giving a presentation about their culture, or assisting with cleanup at our Winter Festival and Graduation Ceremony to name a few.
What is the pick-up and drop-off protocol?
At CMIA we are fortunate to have entrances to each classroom from the outside playground areas. As such, all students, except for infants are dropped off at their classroom doors.
What is the difference between Primary and preschool?
Primary is the term used for early childhood education in a Montessori school. Primary students are age two and a half to six years old.
Why are there mixed ages in the classrooms?
Montessori education looks at the optimal age groupings in which students learn. These multi-age groups allow Montessori educators to create a community of students: beginners, those with some experience and students who have progressed to being leaders in the classroom communities. These mixed-age groupings provide students with a rich social and emotional experience while also allowing for high levels of academic learning.
Is there a difference between Primary 1 and Primary 2?
All our Primary level classrooms operate as high-fidelity Montessori classrooms. The only difference between the different classroom communities at each program level is the teaching team.
How much is the enrollment fee?
The enrollment fees differ depending on the program a student will enter. The early childhood enrollment fee is $200.00 per child and the enrollment fee for our School-Age programs is $400.00.
Is there a referral discount?
The referral discount for families is a reimbursement of the current year's enrollment fee.
Is there a sibling discount?
There is a 10% sibling discount for each additional sibling. This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts.
Is there a military discount?
With proof of employment in law enforcement or the military, a family will receive a 10% discount for each enrolled child.
What curriculum is followed?
Our school follows an integrated, spiral cultural curriculum aligned with Montessori pedagogy and curricula. Math and language instruction is individualized to the student's ability.
Is there a dress code?
CMIA does not have a school uniform but requires appropriate dress according to the guidelines in our Family Handbook.
What extracurricular activities are offered?
While CMIA does not offer specific after-school programs, we work with 3 different vendors so that our students can experience a wide range of activities without leaving the campus. Currently, our school affiliates with Soccer Shots, Combo Fit and Tutu Performing Arts Dance.
What is the food program?
The food program includes breakfast, lunch and one snack per day. The food is cooked onsite and is fresh daily; a yearly signup is required.
Can a student that is not enrolled come for after care or during the summer?
CMIA does not accept students who are not currently enrolled in the school for aftercare or our summer program.
Why are there two campuses?
CMIA has 2 campuses across the road from each other. The original and smaller campus houses the infant-toddler program. As the school expanded, it needed a larger campus to house the primary and school-age programs.
